Blackouts

I had an extremely strange night yesterday. Met up with my two Swedish friends Torun and Sofia at the old Cotton's bar on Anting Lu for Lussevaka, a Scandinavian holiday/celebration. Wanted to have a good night out with my girls before they leave for Christmas.

Downed a couple glasses of my usual drink - vodka tonics - but not so many that I was embarrassingly drunk or anything. A couple people from that's Shanghai met up with us too, and then the girls and I headed over to Lounge 18 on the Bund.

I wasn't there for even 15 minutes and suddenly, I couldn't keep my eyes open. Thought maybe my week had caught up with me, so I told Sofia I was going to head home. I turned around to leave, but the next thing I know, my vision got blotchy and an hour seemed to have passed. The thing is, only about three minutes actually went by -- after I fell backwards in the middle of the bar, and fainted.

So then I wake up to my friends frantically scooping me up from the ground, carrying me out of the bar. "Maybe someone spiked her drink?", "Where's her coat?", "What happened? She didn't even seem drunk," "April, did you eat tonight?" Hm... c'mon, it's me. I never miss a meal!

Probably a combination of factors involved with why I blacked out last night... maybe I was tired, didn't eat enough (doubtful), or some fake China alcohol. Nonetheless, I just feel really lucky and thankful that I was with such great friends who took care of me when I was, literally, down and out. I'm totally fine now, but it was definitely a scary experience that I don't want to relive again!

This sounds like your average Friday night, no?
